Rogues Chapter Nine Hasting Farmers Market -Luc the French Baker

Hastings Market is located just off the South Coast Boardwalk, a popular place to stroll along the seashore. People amble, jog, stop to stare, or run along for their daily exercise. In the center of the boardwalk is the bandstand. From there, and on either side, one can see the bright pink Santa Neta apartments, the ArtSplash Learning Center, a patio cafe, and the Hastings market.

The market is a United Nation of artisans. Many are Bajans, but there are also British, Guyanese, Italian, and French, artisans now living in Barbados. About a dozen artisans attend the market with their crafts, art, and farm goods.

French Chef Luc, shares his story of coming to Barbados and setting up his bakery. He creates some of the best french bread you will find anywhere- My choice is his sourdough. In addition, there are also several other farmers and crafts vendors who enhance the narrative with their own experiences. In fact, the market is a United Nations of vendors. There are Bajans, British, French, Guyanese, and Italian vendors now living and working in Barbados.

The chapter tells the story of how Billy the Irish man started the marketplace and saw it grow past his dreams. Billy's motto is "Try it - its the only way you will know if it is a good idea and never fear failure. It is the way you learn."
