72 Hours in Madrid
This AvidTravellers Madrid journey is loaded with insightful remarks and wonderful experiences. Here is a summary of the journeys sprcial moments:
We start with a bit of history: Madrid has been the capital of Spain since mid-sixteenth century, when Philip II transferred the capital from Toledo. Between 1601 and 1606 the capital of Spain was moved to Valladolid but subsequently returned to Madrid.
In the Autumn of 2024, the AvidTravellrer started a whirlwind 72-hour trip to Madrid with friends, starting with a dynamic, history-filled city expedition. Walking through dynamic squares, we immersed ourselves in the city's history and dynamic environment.
Our group's varied choices caused different activities. Suzanne and Richard began the firstday one night with an unforgettable dinner at Bodega de los Secretos, a relaxing, centuries-old dining establishment loaded with appeal. On day 2 my spouse and I joined a tapas and red wine walking tour led by the passionate Mario. We went to several regional hotspots, consisting of a mushroom specialty bar and an Iberian delicatessen, while finding out about Madrid's history and culture.
The last day was all about cooking, with Pamela and Bill organizing a paella masterclass at the elegant Ritz Mandarin Oriental. Chef Oliver Menendez directed us through the intricacies of making traditional Valencian paella and black rice with squid and lobster. The experience was coupled with tastings of regional sherries and white wines, making it one of the trip's highlights.
We rounded off the weekend with a see to Teatro Flamenco Madrid. This intimate location showcased the raw emotion and beauty of flamenco dancing, offering a best cultural capstone.
Throughout the journey, we enjoyed extraordinary meals at regional restaurants like Casa Verona and Casa Alberto, where we enjoyed authentic Spanish dishes such as anchovies in olive oil, croquettes, and even the famous calamari sandwich. The Mercado de San Miguel was another standout, providing a peek into Spain's abundant cooking customs.
